Middletown Mayor Domenique S. Thornton To Honor Wesleyan University Professor Emeritus

November 10th Declared Robert A. Rosenbaum Day

(MIDDLETOWN, CT) – Mayor Domenique S. Thornton of Middletown will declare Wednesday, November 10, Robert A. Rosenbaum day in part for his continued dedication to PIMMS, the Project to Increase Mastery of Math and Science, at Wesleyan University.

Rosenbaum, Wesleyan professor emeritus of mathematics and founder of PIMMS, has continually and effectively worked towards the improvement of math and science for all students in the state through high-quality professional development programs for teachers.

Mayor Thornton will declare Robert A. Rosenbaum day at Wesleyan's annual Shackleton Memorial Lecture where one of Princeton University's youngest full professor's of mathematics, Manjul Bhargava, 26, will discuss number patterns and theories. The lecture takes place on Tuesday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. in room 150 in the Exley Science Center. His visit is co-sponsored by PIMMS, the Edward W. Snowdon Fund, the Mathematics Department, Admission, and Continuing Studies at Wesleyan University.

Wesleyan University provides PIMMS with office space, facilities, and financial services. Relationships of PIMMS staff with Wesleyan faculty and administrators, include collaborations on educational programs as well as logistical cooperation.

Over the years, PIMMS has operated several types of programs in response to needs articulated by educators. The majority of PIMMS On-Site Professional Services are provided for teachers of students in grades K-6. PIMMS also began an Early Childhood program two years ago for teachers of three- and four-year old children.
