Wesleyan University Senior Earns Watson Fellowship
Stephanie Carlisle, of Alpine, N.J., to Study Architecture Abroad

(MIDDLETOWN, CT) Wesleyan University senior Stephanie Carlisle, a religion major from Alpine, N.J., was recently chosen from among 50 college students across the country to earn a 2005 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. This one-year fellowship will allow Carlisle to study architecture abroad beginning this summer.
While abroad, Watson Fellows create, execute, and evaluate their own projects. Carlisle will utilize her study titled The Practice of Movement: Nomadic Domestic Architecture, to examine architecture in nomadic communities in Mongolia, India, Mauritania and Ireland.
Watson Fellowships, one-year grants for independent study and travel outside the United States, are awarded to graduating college seniors and nominated by participating institutions. Recipients typically earn stipends for their fellowship year of $22,000.
Established in 1831, Wesleyan University is a coeducational, private university of the liberal arts and sciences. It serves approximately 2,700 undergraduates and 150 graduate students and offers a challenging academic environment promoting independent thought and action.
