The Office of Behavioral Health for Students (OBHS)
exists expressly to help students (undergraduate and graduate) to deal
effectively with emotional, personal, interpersonal and situational issues
which cause unhappiness, frustration and/or disruption to their
lives. We are here to help support you and the attainment of your personal
and educational goals.
If
you are a Wesleyan student who thinks some professional input could be
useful, OBHS encourages you to make an initial appointment-- just call Extension 2910 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and speak to the receptionist. In an emergency you can always reach the therapist on call (24/7 whenever classes/exams are in session)--simply call Extension 2910 and follow the directions you hear on the
phone. Our services are free
to Wesleyan students. All
information that you reveal to us is considered absolutely confidential
and would be revealed only with your explicit permission or in an
emergency situation where there is a need to prevent injury to you or to
others.
OBHS operates on a clinic
model, and that means
that your initial appointment will be with the therapist whose
availability most nearly matches yours.
In addition to individual sessions, OBHS has a consultation
service designed to focus on a specific short-term issue. Psychotherapy at the Office of Behavioral Health for Students is available within a time-limited context. The majority of students complete treatment within approximately five sessions--for which there is no charge. More sessions are required in some cases. These determinations are based on individual clinical assessments. Again, there is no charge to the student.
Should a student wish a private therapist or should the need for treatment frequency be greater than what the Office of Behavioral Health for Students can offer,
then a private therapist should be engaged. We do maintain a roster of professionals within the Middletown community and of course we are pleased to talk with any student about the process of choosing a private therapist.
We look forward to talking with you.
