Work-Study
In order to work through this office you must first attend a mandatory OCS Employment Information Session (dates here), this is for all students, even if you have worked through this office before. You will be officially approved to work once you have: attended an info session, completed the on-line employment questionnaire, and had your eligibility verified by the office. You will only get paid for work completed AFTER all of the steps of the process are complete.Once you have completed the steps above, been approved, and started working, time sheets are here.
There are three types of work-study available through OCS:

- Cross Street

Cross Street Tutorial is a tutoring program organized in collaboration with Wesleyan students and members of the Cross Street Church. The program runs Monday - Thursday 4:15 - 6. There are about ten Wesleyan students that meet twice a week with younger students, and each tutor works individually with the student. The kids range in age from 7 - 14, and their tutors help them do their homework and focus in on any specific difficulties the kid is having in school.

This program works with members of the Physical Plant staff to teach English. You do not need to know another language. You meet your tutee once a week during their "lunch" break (the time will vary depending on their shift). You also meet with a coordinator once a week to go over the curriculum.
- Green Street Arts Center

The After School Program is open to area students between the ages of 7 and 18, offering them a safe place to go each weekday afternoon and giving them the opportunity to enrich their lives through the arts and learn other transferable skills. Students participate in arts activities (theatre games, free dance and music jam), recreational arts (salsa, tap, music, art and science, comic book illustration and videography), free arts classes (playwriting, electives, after school clubs) and private vocal and instrumental lessons, as well as sound recording classes. Assist as a homework helper in the after school program. The program runs from 3pm - 6pm every day
- Let's Get Ready

This program provides SAT tutoring, assistance with college applications, and mentoring to low-income high school students from the local area. Tutors work for one evening a week with a set group of 4 - 5 students teaching either the math section or the verbal section. Coaches are needed for one evening a week from about 5:15pm - 9pm (transportation time included and is provided by OCS).
- Traverse Square

This program runs Monday - Thursday from 4pm - 6pm. One to two Fridays a month there are field trips or parties for the kids. Fifteen to twenty children come to the program each day, and we can include more if we have sufficient staff. Each day tutors help kids with homework/academic support for the first half and then play games, do arts and crafts, and work on projects the second half. Tutors are asked to commit at least one day per week
- WesReads and WesMath

The WesReads and WesMath Program is a daytime tutoring program that matches Wesleyan students with Macdonough Elementary School students. Tutors choose at least one weekly shift, during which they go to Macdonough and provide assistance to small groups in higher-level math or reading.
- Woodrow-Wesleyan Education Program

This intervention program serves 7th and 8th graders at Woodrow Wilson Middle School who are failing subjects, at the risk of retention, and need academic help. Tutors assist students with homework, help them organize their materials and assignments, address major issues affecting students' grades, and serve as a general support for changing academic performance.

- Even Start, Class Room Assistant
Even Start is a Family Learning Program that provides Adult Education, Early Childhood
Education (ages six weeks to three years) and Parenting classes for low income families
in which one parent is in need of a high school diploma or instruction in English as a
Second Language. The program is located at 398 Main Street, within easy
walking distance of campus.
Classroom workers will assist teachers and paraprofessionals in all aspects of the
Early Childhood Program: talking, reading, singing, and playing with children,
activity set up and clean up. (No diaper changing). There are also some opportunities
for interaction with parents. Interested students must be able to work well with
others and have an interest in and enjoyment of children.Even Start is seeking students to assist Monday, Wednesday or Friday from
9am-12:30, or Tuesday or Thursday from 9am � 2:30pm.
Hours are flexible around volunteers' class schedules.
- Middlesex United Way, Early Education Support
Working with staff and volunteers, a work study student will develop a report/presentation highlighting the progress of our School Readiness Early Childhood initiative* in all 15 towns in Middlesex County. In addition the student will assist with the development of recommendations to advance the initiative. Assignments may include, but not be limited to phone and/or in-person interviews with early childhood providers from throughout the county, conducting survey's, conducting research, gathering/managing data, assisting staff/volunteers with analyzing data, assist with the development of presentation materials, etc.
The student will work most closely with our Senior Director for Community Impact. Having a car would be helpful but is not necessary. In addition, we would be interested if the student can also be helpful in strengthening our social media efforts.
*School Readiness Early Childhood Initiative Our school readiness initiative works with school systems, early childcare providers, parents, and any/all other concerned community members throughout Middlesex County to identify and assist our youngest children who have social and emotional problems before they enter school. We support programs that provide programs and other support services that assist young children to become school ready and also educate their parents about the important role they play in their child's earliest years.

- Van Driver
Student van drivers are responsible for transporting students to and from volunteer and service-learning opportunities. The driver will: -
Drive a seven or eight passenger vehicle to transport students

Attend a training given by the Transportation Manager

Obey all traffic laws

Maintain regular schedule at OCS

Be at least 20 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license for at least 3 years
Hours per week: will vary depending on availability and schedule
