Work-Study
In order to work through this office you must first attend a mandatory OCS Employment Information Session (dates here), this is for all students who have not attended during the 2011 -2012 academic year.
You will be officially approved to work once you have:
Attended an info session,
Completed the
on-line employment questionnaire, and
Received an e-mail from our office stating your have been approved to work.
You will only get paid for work
completed AFTER all of the steps of the process are complete.
There are three types of work-study available through OCS:

Please note: Pay Rate for all positions: based on class year and number or years working for OCS.
LITERACY POSITIONS - **only federal work study are eligible**

- Cross Street

Cross Street Tutorial is a tutoring program organized in collaboration with Wesleyan students and members of the Cross Street Church. The program runs Monday - Thursday 4:15 - 6. There are about ten Wesleyan students that meet twice a week with younger students, and each tutor works individually with the student. The kids range in age from 7 - 14, and their tutors help them do their homework and focus in on any specific difficulties the kid is having in school.

The After School Program is open to area students between the ages of 7 and 18, offering them a safe place to go each weekday afternoon and giving them the opportunity to enrich their lives through the arts and learn other transferable skills. Assist as a homework helper in the after school program from 5pm - 6pm. In addition to academic support, students participate in arts activities (theatre games, free dance and music jam), recreational arts (salsa, tap, music, art and science, comic book illustration and videography), free arts classes (playwriting, electives, after school clubs) and private vocal and instrumental lessons, as well as sound recording classes. The entire program runs from 3pm - 6pm every day.

This program runs Monday - Thursday from 4pm - 6pm. One to two Fridays a month there are field trips or parties for the kids. Fifteen to twenty children come to the program each day, and we can include more if we have sufficient staff. Each day tutors help kids with homework/academic support for the first half and then play games, do arts and crafts, and work on projects the second half. Tutors are asked to commit at least one day per week.
- WesReads and WesMath

The WesReads and WesMath Program is a daytime tutoring program that matches Wesleyan students with Macdonough Elementary School students. Tutors choose at least one weekly shift, during which they go to Macdonough and provide assistance to small groups in higher-level math or reading.
- Woodrow-Wesleyan Education Program

This intervention program serves 7th and 8th graders at Woodrow Wilson Middle School who are failing subjects, at the risk of retention, and need academic help. Tutors assist students with homework, help them organize their materials and assignments, address major issues affecting students' grades, and serve as a general support for changing academic performance.

- Even Start
Classroom workers will assist teachers and paraprofessionals in all aspects of the Early Childhood Program: talking, reading, singing, and playing with children, activity set up and clean up. (No diaper changing). There are also some opportunities for interaction with parents. Interested students must be able to work well with others and have an interest in and enjoyment of children.
Hours are flexible, the program needs assistance: Monday to Friday from 9 - 12:30.
Even Start is a Family Learning Program that provides Adult Education, Early Childhood Education (ages six weeks to three years) and Parenting classes for low income families in which one parent is in need of a high school diploma or instruction in English as a Second Language. The program is located at 398 Main Street.

- Van Driver
Student van drivers are responsible for transporting students to and from volunteer and service-learning opportunities. The driver will: -
Drive a seven or eight passenger vehicle to transport students

Attend a training given by the Transportation Manager

Obey all traffic laws

Maintain regular schedule at OCS

Be at least 20 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license for at least 3 years
Hours per week: will vary depending on availability and schedule
Hours needed: any time between 9am and 9pm, Monday - Friday; some weekend hours available
