from the website about the common data set is provided below:
The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative
effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers as
represented by the College Board, Peterson's, and U.S. News & World Report. The
combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of
information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher
education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers.
Campus Climate Template
In collaboration with
Academic Affairs and the Office of Institutional Research, a template for
assessing campus climate is being developed. Over the course of next year,
indicators of campus climate will be selected from the CIRP Freshman Survey and
the Senior Survey. These data points will track the attitudes, perceptions, and
interactions that students bring with them and leave with after four years at
Wesleyan. This “dashboard” concept will help identify particular issues and
raise questions about factors that may be enhancing or inhibiting students’
success.
Further research will probe the identified questions and
critical issues.
Our intent is to develop a feasible and manageable data
reporting tool
that will enable us to effectively and efficiently gauge
the climate for students.
