Calculating your GPA in your major
We've noticed that quite a number of program applications
require that you submit your GPA in your major, which
Wesleyan currently does not calculate.
To compute this calculation on your own, follow these two
steps.
Step 1: Use Wesleyan's numerical equivalents
of letter grades, found on the
Registrar's website. Here are those equivalents:
| |
A+ |
= 98.3 |
|
|
C- |
=
71.7 |
| |
A |
= 95 |
|
|
D+ |
=
68.3 |
| |
A- |
= 91.7 |
|
|
D |
=
65 |
| |
B+ |
= 88.3 |
|
|
D- |
=
61.7 |
| |
B |
= 85 |
|
|
E+ |
=
58.3 |
| |
B- |
= 81.7 |
|
|
E |
=
55 |
| |
C+ |
= 78.3 |
|
|
E- |
=
51.7 |
| |
C |
= 75 |
|
|
F |
=
45 |
Add up your grades in your major and divide by the
total number of credits.
Example one- grades for courses in your major
include an A, a B+, an A- and a B. Add up 95, 88.3, 91.7,
and 85, divide by four, and your average is a 90.
Example two- if you have taken a course which is
worth more or less than one full credit, your calculation needs
to be adapted accordingly. So, imagine the "A" listed in
example one was worth .5 credits. Your numerical
equivalent would be half of 95 (47.5), and you would then divide
the total by 3.5 instead of 4, giving you an average of 89.28.
Step 2: From this number, subtract 55 and
divide by 10. So, from 90, subtract 55, leaving 35, divide
by 10 and your GPA is a 3.5.
