A look inside...
The lives of Wesleyan students abroad are rich with complex
personal and intellectual experiences. Several students
have chosen some photographs to give you a glimpse of the varied
and fascinating - and fun! - memories that they carry with them
every day. We hope to constantly expand this photo
journal, so check back again soon for updates (click

Isla Huapi, Chile
I
attended a Mapuche cultural presentation in Huapi Budi, an
indigenous community near the coast with my internship with El
Programa Orígenes, a government organization that works with
indigenous communities in the 9th region of Chile. There was a
community meeting to discuss cultural values at a local school
on la Isla Huapi and some school children sang traditional
Mapuche songs while dressed in traditional Mapuche clothing.

Curacautín, Chile
For one of my classes at la Universidad de la Frontera in Temuco,
Chile from the Social Work major, we took a field trip to
Curacautín to inform members of the community about changes that
were made to the Domestic Violence law in Chile. Part of the
program involved working with children at a rural school and
helping them understand what domestic violence means as well as
informing them how to get help if they need it.

Cuenca, Spain
This photo shows me and my new friend Marissa (right), a Vassar
student, at the viewpoint with Cuenca, a small town two hours
outside Madrid, behind us. We were there the Saturday after
Thanksgiving on a group excursion and we had our version of a
Thanksgiving dinner in an excellent restaurant along the river.

Aranda de Duero, Spain
Cristina, Esther, and Rosa and me, members of the university
choir I joined in Madrid. We're on a choir trip to Aranda
(a small town two hours north of Madrid) to sing in the church
there for a music festival. After the concert we were taken to a
traditional bodega (wine cellar) for a copa (a cross between a
cocktail hour and a banquet).
