Subject: Public Safety Search and External Review

To the Wesleyan Community:

I’m writing to provide an update to the community on the Public Safety Director search, as well as to share the report from the external review of that office conducted at the end of last year.

As has been previously reported in the Argus, three finalists for the Director of Public Safety visited campus in late September.  During the campus interviews, the candidates met with several panels of student, faculty and administrative representatives, and each candidate was asked to give a brief presentation open to the entire Wesleyan community.  The search committee reviewed all of the feedback from these meetings but was unable to reach a successful outcome. The search committee has decided to re-post the position and develop a new pool of candidates.  We hope to bring a new set of finalists to campus early next semester.

An external review of Public Safety was conducted late last year by a team from Margolis Healy & Associates.  An executive summary of their report and recommendations has been posted online (accessible only within the Wesleyan network).

While the search for a new director continues, I will work with Tony Bostick, Interim Director of Public Safety, and WSA leadership to reconstitute the Public Safety Advisory Committee so that we can begin to vet and implement the recommendations in the report.
