Subject: Programming Initiatives for the Coming Year

Dear Students:

I write to update you on some new programming initiatives.  Often the most meaningful social activities on campus are the ones students create for one another.  In recognition of this, additional funds have been made available for the use of student groups creating social activities.  For details on this and other new initiatives related to social life, see below.

We’ve undertaken these initiatives in light of the fact that the Psi U, DKE, and Beta houses are off-limits to all students this year.  This means that any student found at these properties will be subject to serious disciplinary measures by the University. The situation of these three fraternities is deeply disappointing.  Our hope is that the new initiatives will in some measure make up for role the Greek houses normally play in the social life of campus.

Programming Initiatives

?         Programming Grants for Student Groups – The President’s Office has made funds available to establish a fund to support weekend events planned and implemented by student groups (contact Student Activities [SALD] for details and to request funding)

?         Music Series – we will continue this popular series of student performers and bands every Friday evening in Usdan during late-night dining

?         Expanded Saturday Film Series – the Film Series will expand to add a Saturday late-evening showing of “Game of Thrones” episodes on the big screen for the fall semester

?         Saturday Programming –SALD will launch programming every Saturday this fall – many events will be late-night, and some will involve trips to off campus venues

?         Senior Events – SALD will be working with the Senior Class Officers on a series of events specifically for seniors throughout the year

?         Bon Appetit and Usdan are exploring acoustic music and other programming at Pi Café, which was expanded this summer.

A few days ago you received an email from President Roth welcoming you back to campus and encouraging you to challenge, inspire and look out for one another.  A safe and inspiring campus is a goal we can all share.  The beginning of every year offers the opportunity to make that goal a reality.

See you soon!
