Subject: Important May Closing and Summer Housing Information

Dear Students,

We wanted to send you some information about May closing so you can start planning your departure with family and friends:

  • University Residences will close on May 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. (EST).  Students that do not have all their things removed from their room and keys returned to our office by 1 p.m. will be charged a $200 late fee. The fee will be charged for any time after 1 p.m.

It is important that students vacate their residences on time so Physical Plant staff can start repairing and cleaning the Reunion and Commencement residences (200 Church, Bennet, Clark, and Hewitt) and rooms can be cleaned and repaired for students that have to transition to other rooms. We transition over 200 students working for Reunion and Commencement/Summer Housing participants and it is important that people leave on time so we can prepare these rooms.

  • Students are approved to stay for R&C Week if they are working for Bon Appetit, University Relations, participating in University Summer Housing (in Bennet Hall) starting May 24, 2016, or seniors walking in Commencement on Sunday.

  • Alpha Delta Phi and Psi Upsilon are not designated as University summer housing and students who decide to stay at these locations should carefully check move in and move out dates, as they will not be eligible for University transition housing at the beginning or end of the summer. We also remind you that 184 and 276 High Street are not available to Wesleyan students for housing during the summer or academic year.

  • Seniors and approved students working for Reunion and Commencement have to move out of housing (all items removed from residence, keys turned into ResLife in North College) by 4:30 p.m. on May 23, 2016.

  • We encourage students who are able to move some belongings before closing to alleviate some of the stress related to moving during finals week.

  • Packing is also a great study break and if you start early, you can ensure that you have everything when you leave unlike when you rush on Saturday and might leave important things behind like electronics, clothes, and documents.

  • Please note that early arrival status will not be granted for storage deliveries and the University cannot sign for storage deliveries for students that cannot be present. Wesleyan does not have a contract with storage providers and if a student decides to use a storage provider, they must work with them directly and within University opening and closing dates and time.
