Tips for Parents

Now that your student is settling in at Wesleyan, here are some helpful tips for adjusting to this new experience:
  • Establish a plan for future communication

  • Identify campus resources

  • Troubleshoot together, don’t fix it

  • Get a copy of your student’s class schedule

  • Express your concerns about behavior, and encourage your student to do the same

  • Affirm confidence in your student’s potential

  • Encourage, listen and praise

  • Keep in touch! (e-mail is best)

  • Avoid comparisons to others

  • Expect exploration of and changes in identity and values

  • Stay connected to campus - Homecoming /Family Weekend  October 17-19, 2008

  • Subscribe to the Wesleyan Argus

  • Do not show up unannounced

  • Send mail and packages

  • Find support for yourselves - join the ParentsTalk list

  • Maximize your new found free time!
