Robert Rosenbaum
Robert A.
Rosenbaum, Yale, A.B. 1936, Ph.D. 1947 (mathematics), was a faculty
member at Reed College in Oregon from 1939-53 and has been a
Visiting Professor at Swarthmore College, Univ. of Mass., and
College of St.Thomas (St. Paul, MN). A professor of mathematics at
Wesleyan University since 1953, he has also held various posts in
Wesleyan academic administration, including Acting President in
1970. In 1985, he was named The University Professor of Mathematics
and the Sciences, emeritus.
He has
been recognized with honorary LHD's from St. Joseph College (CT),
Wesleyan, and Transylvania University (KY), and with an Sc.D. from
CSU; with the Baldwin Medal (Wesleyan) and the Transylvania Medal,
and with awards from ATOMIC, CSTA, and Sacred Heart University.
He has
written articles in professional journals, and is the author or
co-author of mathematics texts including Geometry with
Coordinates (SMSG); Modern Coordinate Geometry
(Houghton-Mifflin); An Introduction to Projective Geometry and
Modern Algebra (Addison-Wesley); and Calculus, Basic Concepts
and Applications (Cambridge University Press).
He
founded the Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics and Science
(PIMMS) in 1979, was its Director until 1994, and its Chairman since
1995. He was also the Founding President of the CT Academy for
Education in Math, Science, and Technology in 1990 and served on its
Board of Directors and Executive Committee until 2003.

Mike Zebarth
Mike Zebarth has been involved in
Mathematics and Science education since the late 1960’s. Mike taught
Math, Physics and Physical Science for thirteen years in several
Illinois schools. He has experience teaching in grades 6-12 and at
the college level. Mike was recognized by the American Association
of Physics Teachers for Innovative Physics Teaching in 1974. In
addition to his teaching experience, Mike served on a local school
board for a number of years. In the 70’s he was instrumental in the
establishment of pre-school programs in two Illinois communities.
In 1980, Mike moved
from education to industry and spent the next 21 years working for
Canberra Industries, a Connecticut manufacturer of analytical
instruments. During that time, Mike continued his involvement in
education making frequent presentations to students and teachers in
the area of nuclear science. He is the author of numerous
publications on the applications of nuclear instrumentation. Mike is
an active member of the American Association of Physics Teachers,
the National Science Teachers Association, the Health Physics
Society, and the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management
Mike’s work with
PIMMS began in the early 1990’s when he worked with PIMMS to host
Summer Institutes. By the mid 90’s, he was a member of the PIMMS
Advisory Council and become its Chairperson in 2003. Mike took over
as the Director for PIMMS on the retirement of Dan Dolan in late
2003. |
Bob Borello
Bob Borello has had extensive teaching, administrative, and leadership
experience, both in CT public schools and through service to PIMMS.
Having taught mathematics and science in the elementary and middle
schools, he has been Elementary Science Chairman in Manchester;
Elementary School Principal in Lebanon (CT); Science Department
Chairman in Hartford; and BEST District Facilitator in Hartford.
After study that led to his designation as a PIMMS
Vanguard Fellow in 1985, Bob served as an assistant to Dr. Ralph
Yulo in subsequent PIMMS summer programs and later became the PIMMS
head elementary science instructor. Since then, Bob has directed
numerous workshops throughout the State and region, including
developing (with Judy Dailey) science and mathematics training
sessions, based on a PIMMS model, at Union College in Schenectady,
NY, for teachers in that area. Bob and Judy have conducted the Union
College program for eight years. With commitment to carrying on the
work of “increasing mastery of mathematics and science”, Bob is
devoted to his current position of PIMMS Associate Director of
Science. |
Sandie Coelho
Sandra Coelho has been involved in education since 1958. Her
certification is Nursery – Grade 8; Grades 7 – 12 Mathematics; and
Educational Administration. Sandra taught math and was the math and
technology coordinator for the East Windsor Public Schools, where
she spent 35 of her 38 years in public education. Her experience
spanned the entire spectrum of Pre K through High School and
College.
Sandie has run her own consulting firm specializing in
technology training and in professional development for teachers.
She has a B.S. in Elementary Education, an M.S. in Mathematics, and
Advanced Certificates in Curriculum and Administration and
Technology. Sandie is a long time member and officer of ATOMIC,
ATMNE, and numerous other professional organizations. Sandie has
worked as a consultant with PIMMS and the Connecticut Academy. In
that capacity, she has helped teachers in a number of school
districts learn to use manipulatives and interactive strategies,
along with the results of the Connecticut Mastery Tests to improve
their instruction.
Working at PIMMS as the Associate Director for
Mathematics is a comfortable and natural environment for her.
