PIMMS Summer Institutes are conducted in locations throughout the state. Each workshop is focused on specific content and targeted for a range of grade levels (e.g. Teaching the Concepts of Geometry and Measurement, Grades 3 – 5).

Statewide Programs
Summer workshops for teachers, grades K – 16, in mathematics, science, technology, and assessment, and some that demonstrate the integration of mathematics and science, are available for interested teachers across the State. They are held in the educational training facilities of our corporate partners, in science museums, and in cooperating colleges, universities, and school districts. All workshops have a firm content focus and include hands-on, activity-based, instructional strategies and incorporate the use of technology where appropriate.

District Specific Programs
Some Summer Institutes are presented only for teachers in a single or combination of school districts. These workshops are designed at the request of mathematics and/or science coordinators to meet the specific needs of district teachers. Several districts, Regional Educational Service Centers, and the Association of Mathematics Teachers in Two Year Colleges also have requested workshops for their teachers.

 Fellowship Programs
In order to help teachers achieve mastery of their professional responsibilities, PIMMS, in 1984, initiated a series of Fellowship Programs in mathematics and science: four-week institutes extending over two summers, with substantial follow-ups during two academic years. Each program
  • deepens and expands teachers’ command of subject matter;
  • engages participants in consideration of optimally effective teaching strategies and tactics; and
  • provides an atmosphere of collegiality that fosters continuing networks for mutual support.
At the successful conclusion of a two-year program, teachers are named PIMMS Fellows. Most PIMMS Fellows develop into teacher-leaders and help create a "multiplier-effect" through their outreach activities with colleagues.
