Celebrate Your Reunion!

I am very much looking forward to Memorial Day Weekend in 2008, my first Reunion & Commencement as president of Wesleyan University. The last time I attended these festivities was 30 years ago, and so I will be joining the mighty class of 1978 in celebrating our Reunion. There will be a whirlwind of activities: from seminars to celebrations, from dancing with old friends to meeting the newest cohort of alumni.

R&C weekends are an enduring tradition for the worldwide Wesleyan community, a chance to celebrate past and future. I am eager to welcome back to campus graduates who haven’t been back to Middletown in many years. There will be some familiar signs. O’Rourke’s has recently reopened in the same location, but you will find many other things have changed on Main Street and on campus. From the third floor of the new Usdan University Center, you can look out across Andrus Field and see our alma mater as she was always meant to be seen.

Please come back to Wesleyan for Reunion & Commencement. Reconnect with old friends, and discover new aspects of the passion and the accomplishments of our faculty and newest alumni!

Michael S. Roth ’78
President

Greening Reunion & Commencement Weekend

You will notice a new color standing out against the traditional black and red regalia decorating the 176th graduating class during its commencement ceremony this year: Green. A symbol of our dedication to producing an increasingly sustainable Reunion & Commencement Weekend, all graduating seniors, graduate students, alumni and their families, as well as faculty and staff members, will have the opportunity to don green ribbons indicating their commitment to the Wesleyan Community Climate Agreement and to leading a more environmentally conscientious and sustainable lifestyle in future pursuits.

Behind this emblematic gesture, a number of environmental initiatives will be implemented throughout the four-day weekend. Most printed materials (including the preliminary brochure) will be printed on at least 30% post consumer and wind generated electricity paper, recycling resources will be widely available throughout campus, rental items and décor will be reduced significantly over previous years, and the university with collect diploma covers and nametag holders for reuse. For more information about how you can help support Wesleyan’s “greening” initiatives, visit Sustainability.
