Whither Diversity: Meanderings of a Wayward Concept

“Diversity” wandered into the vocabulary of higher education decades ago. During the past 35 years it has passed through several domains of meaning, picking up imperatives along its way and leaving many confused concerning its significance in American higher education. Edgar Beckham will relate his own attempt to trace the concept’s migrations and to estimate the difference diversity makes.
