We hope the entire family will participate in Reunion & Commencement Weekend. While you attend various activities, your children (ages 4 months through 12 years) may enjoy Camp Cardinal, a supervised program created to entertain children during the weekend.
Camp Cardinal Preschool Program (Ages 4 Months to 5 years)
For the 20th consecutive year, the Neighborhood Preschool, a licensed day-care facility serving the Middletown and Wesleyan communities, will operate a special program exclusively for children of alumni and parents attending Reunion & Commencement Weekend. The professional, trained staff will organize games and other activities, and will also provide quiet time, when needed, for the younger children in the group. The Preschool is conveniently located on the Wesleyan campus at 115 High Street, near the Butterfield residence halls.
Camp Cardinal Children’s Program (Ages 6 to 12 years)
The Children’s Program will provide entertainment and supervision for 6- to 12-year olds attending Reunion & Commencement Weekend. Children will be supervised by current Wesleyan students who have experience with childcare. The program begins on Friday afternoon with games and activities, including the 12th annual all-campus scavenger hunt, and concludes with a pizza party and movies. Saturday’s schedule features more games, meals, and lots of other fun-filled indoor and outdoor activities on campus.
Camp Cardinal “Counselors in Training”
While we do not offer a schedule of activities for teens, children 13 and older are welcome to act as “counselors in training” throughout the weekend. Teens may assist student counselors with various children’s activities during Camp Cardinal hours. Please contact Makaela Kingsley ’98 at email@example.com or (860) 685-3836 to make arrangements.
Camp Cardinal Registration
The cost for each child is $50 per session (Session 1: Friday 3 p.m.–midnight, Session II: Saturday 9 a.m.–4 p.m., and Session III: Saturday 4 p.m.–midnight). You may register for Camp Cardinal here. Upon enrollment in the program, parents and families will receive further details pertaining to the Camp Cardinal schedule and will be asked to sign a permission form for each child enrolled.
Parents may drop off their children at the Camp Cardinal desk at Registration (Usdan University Center) anytime during program hours, and must report to the Camp Cardinal desk to determine up-to-the-minute locations of program activities. Children under 6 years of age should be taken directly to the Neighborhood Preschool at 115 High Street, where all Preschool Programs will be held. You may bring along toys and other items from home that will make your child’s day more fun or comfortable. If your child is enrolled in the Children’s Program (children ages 6 through 12) and will be swimming at the Freeman Athletic Center, please provide a towel, bathing suit, and bathing cap (required). Be sure to clearly label all belongings with your child’s name.
If you have any questions, please contact Makaela Kingsley ’98 at firstname.lastname@example.org or (860) 685-3836. For specific information about the Preschool Program, please contact Karyn Hurlbert Bidwell, director of the Neighborhood Preschool at (860) 346-4333 or email@example.com.
