Florescent bulbs
  • While the use of compact fluorescent bulbs is encouraged to save energy, everyone should know that these bulbs (like all fluorescent bulbs) must be recycled as “universal waste” because of their mercury content. We are currently working on a “drop off” recycling system for them, but until it is announced, please contact Facilities Customer Service at x3400 to arrange for pickup of used bulbs.

Motor oil
  • Is a regulated waste in Connecticut. If generated on campus by University-owned equipment, email recycling@wesleyan.edu for pickup. Otherwise, consult your local Household Hazwaste schedule. http://www.dep.state.ct.us/wst/recycle/hhwsched.htm
Paper

  • Paper bins are available at most locations on campus
Printer Cartridges - inkjet / bubble jet / laser

Toner Cartridges

  • Should all be recycled. You can drop them off to the recycling center in the Science Center lobby, or put them in a sealed plastic bag (a baggie, or the plastic wrapper holding your new cartridge!) and send them through campus mail to Bill Nelligan, Physical Plant, 170 Long Lane.
Scrap metal
  • There is a new outdoor bin for bulky scrap metal located behind 170 Long Lane.
Styrofoam (block)
  • Science Center loading dock
Textiles (clean linens, towels, clothing)

Shoes (rubber soles)

  • Butterfield A parking lot (“L” lot) -- Lawn and High Streets (container next to the cardboard dumpster)
  • Parking lot for High Rise and Low Rise residence halls, off Church Street
  • At the end of McConaughy Drive, behind the Foss Hill residence halls (benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters, Nutmeg Chapter).
