The pages you connect to from one of the major links from the homepage. These are typically umbrella pages that often have a distinct look and feel.
High Priority
- toolbar
- navigation (to subpages and subsites)
- useful content identifying page
Moderate Priority
Dynamic data related to site:
- events
- news
- links to more info
- profiles
Low Priority
Footer and associated information
Examples
Here are some examples of landing pages I am pointing out the “framework” not necessarily the design.
- Simmons
- amazing site – both technically and visually
- can get a glimpse of the landing page info on the homepage
- landing pages have 3 columns with nav on left, info in middle and of note type info on left
- Notre Dame
- the 2nd level pages are all from the same design family but are not exactly the same
- 2 or 3 columns as appropriate
- about page says ‘Is ND your dream school?’ – very appropriate
- Biola
- check out these 2nd level pages – completely different than most other universities
- Stonehill
- again 3 columns
- callout box to summarize page in different color on top of main column
- ‘page options’ and ‘see also’ on right
- nav on left always has ‘main tools’ in brown overlaid on pages nav
- Boston College
- nice use of 2 columns
- different – nav on right not left
- instead of main links on top they are on right and expanded
- again related links to direct user
- University of Rochester
- nice layout using 2 columns
- would like to see some words describing the landing page
