SCHEDULE
Fall Semester:
- Make arrangements to
begin a thesis in your major department, and add course
DEPT409 (yellow senior thesis tutorial form located on Honors
Board) by September 17, 2007. If your department does
not require a fall tutorial, inform the chair or appropriate
faculty member of your intention in writing, and give a copy
to the department administrative assistant as well.
- Visit Olin Library:
carrels, borrowing privileges, and "secrets"
revealed
- Begin or continue
research on the topic
- A confirmation letter stating
that you are a candidate for honors will be mailed to you by
mid-October. If you are not sure whether you are a
candidate, check with Beth Labriola in the Registrar's Office to make sure your name
in on the Candidate list.
- Construct, with the
tutor, a timetable for writing and revising the work.
- Stick carefully to the
schedule as the semester progresses.
Spring Semester:
- Add course DEPT410 (on
yellow senior thesis tutorial form) by February 5, 2008
- File Work in Progress
form with Beth Labriola (due Feb. 5)
- Complete writing or production
- Departments select
readers and notify Beth Labriola
- Prepare final copy for
tutor's review
- Schedule printing date
with outside vendor (if needed) to make reader
photocopies
- Register an electronic
PDF version of your thesis through the secure website (detailed
instructions on uploading PDF files will be forthcoming) and
indicate the number of copies you will have printed & bound before
you come to the Registrar's Conference Room to complete the
thesis registration process on April 14. Register reader
copies with Beth Labriola on April 14.
Note that there are no extensions of the thesis
deadline; computer problems are not an acceptable excuse -
create your PDF copy and print your reader copies early!
- Request Thorndike funds
(through application) by April 14
- Deliver copies of thesis
to readers (after registration per above)
- Honors decisions
announced by departments by April 28
- Pick up bound copies of
thesis on the Saturday of Commencement weekend (you will be
notified via email when bound copies are ready for pick up)

LIBRARY
Library
carrels: Enter a lottery for a closed study carrel in Olin
Library. Applications are available September 17th in Olin
Library, Room 202. The applications are due to Room 202 by
Friday, Sept. 28th at noon. Science and SISP Honors
candidates apply for carrels in the Science Library.
Library
'Secrets' Revealed: One hour workshops disclose information
that will save you time and energy as you research your topic.
It is recommended that Honors candidates take the time to attend a
workshop, which will be offered in late September/early October.
Announcements of dates and times will be made in the Argus
or see a reference librarian. Announcement of workshops will
be posted on the Honors Board..
Borrowing
privileges: See the circulation desk to find out about special
borrowing privileges extended to Honors candidates.
