special non-degree seeking undergraduates

Wesleyan University may accept non-matriculated students to the undergraduate program as special non-degree seeking students. Individuals eligible for this special student category cannot be matriculated at another academic institution or have an undergraduate degree and they must fall into one of the categories listed below.

  • Members of the Wesleyan Community, which include employees of the University, spouses/domestic partners of members of the faculty, administration or staff.

  • Middletown Area Residents This area consists of the following towns: Cromwell, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Haddam, Killingworth, Middlefield, Middletown, Moodus, Portland and Rocky Hill

  • Employees of Middletown

Special non-degree seeking undergraduate applications must be submitted to the Registrar's Office, 1st floor, North College by August 15 for the fall semester, and by December 1 for the spring semester. There is a $50.00 non-refundable application fee. Once accepted, non-degree seeking special students may enroll in up to two courses with instructor approval, if their enrollment does not displace a degree-seeking student. The tuition is a per-credit charge, which is pro-rated based upon Wesleyan's full-time tuition. The per-credit fee for the fall 2009 semester is $4978.  Financial aid is not available to non-degree seeking special students. Wesleyan University employees working full time and their spouses or partners, may register for up to two courses during the fall and spring semesters.  Wesleyan University employees should refer to the Human Resources Benefits website  to determine their tuition reimbursement eligibility. Employees of the City of Middletown should contact the Middletown Personnel Department to enquire about tuition assistance.

Individuals with an undergraduate degree are not eligible to enroll in undergraduate courses.  However, if they are interested in

  • GLSP courses they may apply through the Graduate Liberal Studies Program, 248 High Street 

  • Graduate courses they may apply through the Office of Graduate Student Services, 1st floor Exley Science Center.

High school students interested in courses at Wesleyan should apply for High School Scholars Program through the Office of Admission, 70 Wyllys Avenue.

Non-degree seeking special students, who subsequently wish to apply for admission to an undergraduate degree program at Wesleyan, must do so through the Admission Office.
