Hebrew @ Wesleyan

Hebrew courses are hosted by the Religion Department at Wesleyan. The Hebrew program consists of Modern Hebrew and literature courses. The program offers three level of Hebrew: Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced. Hebrew courses beginning with 202 can be counted towards a Religion major and any 2 Hebrew courses can be counted towards the Certificate in Jewish and Israel Studies.

Introductory Hebrew , Hebrew 101 (offered in the Fall semester) is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Hebrew and along with Hebrew 102 (offered in the Spring semester) it teaches basic language skills.

Intermediate Hebrew is also a yearly course sequence, Hebrew 201 and Hebrew 202. Intermediate Hebrew courses continue the instruction of language skills as well as providing students with an opportunity to study Israeli society and culture. At this level literary texts in Hebrew are being incorporated into the curriculum and lab work is centered around films.

The advanced level course, Hebrew 211, is a seminar in Israeli Modern Literature which surveys Hebrew literature from the early days of Israel until today's newest and hippest trends. Material is read and discussed in Hebrew. All Hebrew courses offer exposure to multi-media instruction: Israeli films, newspapers, video clips, computer programs and the internet. Also, All Hebrew and literature courses combine strong  cultural and literary dimensions. Writers and scholars from Israel give presentations and meet and discuss with students in small groups about their work.
