Early Arrivals

It is imperative that the number of students who return to campus prior to the opening of housing be kept to a minimum for several reasons.  Physical Plant has only a short time period to do renovations and make repairs, and to clean the units in preparation for the fall semester.  There are also extensive construction and life safety projects occurring over the course of the summer, further stretching Physical Plant resources.  Furthermore, the week of August 31st has been committed to helping new students acclimate themselves to Wesleyan without distractions from continuing students.

Housing opens on Saturday, September 5, 2009 for upper-class students.  Early arrival status is granted only to students that are working on campus or are members of a fall sports team.   If a student is working on campus, the supervisor must make a request to Residential Life by August 1, 2009 so that we can confirm whether or not that student's fall assignment could be available early.  It is important that the supervisor provide us with each student's name, Wes ID, employer contact and dates of employment.  This information should be sent to Sheila von Schoeler in Residential Life by the August 1 deadline.  Information regarding the students on fall sports teams is coordinated through Athletics.

Please Note:  Early arrivals cannot return to campus before Noon on August 24, 2009 and there is no guarantee that the student can move directly into their fall housing assignment

There are a few groups who are critical to the operation of the university who are required to return to campus early, including orientation leaders, residential life staff, and student workers in Usdan and Admissions.  If you believe you meet this criteria, please contact the coordinator for your group to confirm your name has been submitted to Residential Life.

If you are not working on campus but feel that you have a compelling reason to return to campus early, please contact Melissa Powers with your reasons by August 1, 2009.  Your request and assignment availability will be assessed.   However, if you are not working on campus or a fall athlete that needs to arrive early, you will be assessed an early arrival fee if your request is granted.  There is a $50 processing fee and a charge of $50 per night prior to September 5, 2009.
