Eligibility
Housing at Wesleyan is limited* and the Office of Residential Life only provides
housing to graduate students and their immediate family members (domestic
partners/spouses and children or legal dependents) who are currently enrolled in
a graduate program. Evidence of marriage or domestic partnership is required for
married or partnered students to be considered for family housing.
*
The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to place graduate and
undergraduate students together in order to maximize use of space on campus.
This will only be done when spaces are extremely limited.
Process
Assignments are made on a yearly basis based on available vacancies and roommate
preferences (if applicable). For incoming graduate students, housing
assignments will be sent via email by July 30 if the Office of Residential Life
receives the housing application by June 30. After the above deadline,
any additional requests for housing are processed on a first-come, first-served
basis, based on remaining availability. Students making changes in their
marital/union status must notify the Office of Residential Life immediately at
860-685-3550 or extension 3550.
Students currently living in graduate housing who are interested in remaining on
campus for the 2008-2009 year must inform the Office of Residential Life in
writing by April 30, 2008. The Office of Residential Life will be sending out a
packet of information for you to return in March 2008.
Room/Unit Change
Requests
Anyone
interested in changing room/unit must come to the Office of Residential Life to
submit a Room/Unit Change Request form. Each year there are only a limited
number of vacancies available. Room/Unit change requests will be handled on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
Lease
Students must sign a
binding lease with the University upon receiving keys for their unit. Signing
the lease indicates an agreement to live in Graduate Housing for the duration of
one academic year. All leases end on
May 31 of each year. Current, matriculating, graduate residents who wish to remain in
Wesleyan University housing past May 31 are required to sign and submit a new
lease to the Office of Residential Life prior to June 15. Graduate students will not be released from their lease
prior to May 31 unless they either terminate their status as a student,
have completed all coursework and have permission from their faculty advisor and
the director of Graduate Student Services to be released from housing, or can
provide proof of extenuating circumstances. Graduate students may submit a
written appeal for early termination of lease to the assistant director
of Residential Life. The assistant director of
Residential Life will review the circumstances and make a final, binding
decision with regards to enforcement of the lease with the University.
The lease assures
housing at a particular location only for the length of the contract. Although
it is unusual to require residents to move to a new location within campus
housing, the University reserves the right to do so when necessary. In cases of
unforeseen safety concerns, a minimum of 90 days notice will be given.
