Summer Housing 2008

The Office of Residential Life is pleased to offer housing to students who require it during the summer term, May 16, 2008 – August 30, 2008.

THE SUMMER HOUSING APPLICATION DOES NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE:

  • A student only looking to stay on campus for 1 week between the closing of housing and commencement (May 16th and May 30th).

  • A graduate student - please call our Assignments Coordinator, Amy Miller, x3550, or amiller01@wesleyan.edu for information specific to graduate students.

  • A graduating senior or a student not matriculated for the Fall 2008 semester.

  • Any individual not affiliated with Wesleyan University.

Who can get summer housing?
Any current, matriculating Wesleyan student is eligible for summer housing, although priority consideration will be given to students who have academic or work-related University business. Summer housing is ONLY available to Wesleyan students.  Students looking for summer housing must stay for a minimum of 2 weeks, and no new admits will be allowed after July 30, 2008.  Priority consideration for summer housing will be given to those who submit their applications by 5:00pm on Thursday, May 1, 2008 and will be on a rolling basis as long as space remains available.  Students who have submitted their applications by May 9th will be contacted by May 12th. Signed Summer Housing contracts will be due to Residential Life by 5:00pm on Friday, May 16, 2008.

How, where and when will I be placed?
Placement is based on a first-come, first-served basis.  All summer housing students will be placed in Fauver Residence Hall - only doubles rooms are available.  If you are interested in living with a particular student, be sure to indicate the student’s name on your application.  Students will move into their summer housing assignment on Friday, May 30, 2008 starting at 9:00am.

When do I transition into my fall assignment?
Students who will be remaining on campus until university housing opens August 30th will be transitioned to their fall assignment on Friday, August 15, 2008.  Please make the necessary arrangements so that you are available to move on that date.  Students who will not be returning to the university in the fall will not be allowed to stay in summer housing past August 15, 2008.

Why do I pay until August 30, 2008?
Although students staying in the fall are transitioned into their fall assignment Friday, August 15, 2008, the fall housing contract does not begin until August 30, 2008 Therefore, students who are housed through August 30, 2008 are billed for their time in summer housing.

How much is summer housing and how do I pay? Summer housing will cost $16/day or $112/week for a double occupancy room. Summer housing fees are prorated by day and students will be charged for the length of time they spend in their assignments. All fees will be charged to the student’s account at the end of the summer term once the total amount of days has been calculated.

Graduating seniors who wish to stay for the summer are not eligible.

Please note that while we try to maintain flexibility to students’ schedules, we will not accept any changes or extensions to housing contracts after July 30, 2008.

Can I buy out my double? No.  There is great demand for summer housing and we reserve the right to place students in double rooms. If you have roommate or housemate preferences, please make sure all parties make note of it on their applications.

What rules/policies apply during summer housing? The same university policies that apply during the regular academic year still apply during the summer term. Students are expected to comply with the terms of the housing contract, the Code of Non-Academic Conduct and Community Standards.

Are there RAs on staff? What about programs? There will be two summer Resident Advisors on staff who will help to provide support and programming to the summer housing community. The RAs work a total of 35 hours a week: 30 hours a week in our office at an hourly rate for 27 hours and a rent waiver for the last 3 hours of work in the office; and 5 hours a week in the summer housing unit.

If you are interested in applying for a Summer RA position, please contact Allison Glasmann to apply. Please note that preference will be given to current ResLife staff who can work in the office until the end of August.

If you have questions contact: Allison Glasmann, Area Coordinator, at x3167 or via email aglasmann@wesleyan.edu
