Qualifications and Job Descriptions

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have full-time enrollment status at the University. Applicants must have sophomore class standing by date of employment. Applicants must be in good academic standing and have no more than one judicial point at the time of application submission. Due to potential conflicts of interest and time constraints, student staff members are not allowed to serve as president, vice-president or chair of the Student Affairs Committee of the Wesleyan Student Association (WSA).

All Head Resident candidates must have at least one semester experience as a Resident Advisor, House Manager, or Community Advisor before they are eligible to apply.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with Junior/Senior Class standing by date of employment, be in good judicial standing (no points), and to applicants who can commit to employment for a full academic year.

Terms of Employment
ResLife student staff will adhere to all policies of the University. ResLife student staff must be United States citizens, permanent residents, or valid F-1/J-1 student visa holders.  All HRs, RAs, and HMs must reside in University housing during their contract period.

Head Resident (HR)
Head Residents are members of the Residential Life student staff at Wesleyan University. They are directly supervised by the Area Coordinators and are responsible for the management of their designated areas. In that role they supervise the Resident Advisors, House Managers, and/or Community Advisors for their area. Head Residents are key in establishing a community environment conducive to maximizing academic, personal, and social development; maintaining healthy and safe living conditions; and providing overall support of the mission of Residential Life. Head Residents are also an integral part of the leadership team of Residential Life.

HR Position Description

Resident Advisor (RA)
Resident Advisors are members of the Residential Life student staff at Wesleyan University. They are directly supervised by the Head Resident and the Area Coordinator for their area. Resident Advisors are responsible for the entire residence hall; specific responsibilities relate to meeting the needs of their assigned area. Resident Advisors play an integral role in establishing a community environment conducive to maximizing academic, personal, and social development; maintaining healthy and safe living conditions; and providing overall support of the mission of Residential Life.

RA Position Description

Community Advisor (CA)
Community Advisors are members of the Residential Life student staff at Wesleyan University. They are directly supervised by the Head Resident and Area Coordinator. Community Advisors are responsible for meeting the needs of their neighborhood residents in both woodframe houses and apartments and play an important role in establishing a community/environment conducive to maximizing academic, personal, and social development; maintaining healthy and safe living conditions; and providing overall support of the mission of Residential Life.  CA selection occurs after the room selection process.

CA Position Description

House Managers (HM)
The HM selection process and the HR/CA/RA selection processes run separately.  If you wish to apply to the HM position for next year, you must first apply to the specific house(s) of your interest, then receive and accept an offer to the house(s).  If you accept an offer to live in a Program House, you become eligible to apply for the HM position for that house.  You cannot apply to be an HM from this website.
