PC Power Management Initiative
In late 2010, ITS began working with a PC power management company called Verdiem to address energy usage of PCs throughout campus. Because of backup needs, remote worker support, and lab/classroom imaging schedule, the project took considerable time to implement. During March 2012, we completed an analysis of project results and the findings were very positive. The full report breaks down division-by-division savings while the narrative report explains the project methods. Following are a few notable examples. For the entire 5922 set of PCs we saw a campus wide savings of 36.7% amounting to $12,294 in annual savings. The biggest savings was realized in Classroom computers where we saved 63.6% over baseline on 117 PCs, amounting to $4,204 in annual savings.
