Green Building Initiatives at Wesleyan

We’ve Done It

Listed below are green initiatives that have been implemented.

  Initiative Notes
1 Built new 270-bed Fauver undergraduate housing facilities and awarded “Silver LEED Certification." Completed 2005
2 Built a Geothermal Well system on 24 bed senior prototype house for heating and cooling. Completed 2005
3 Usdan University Center built to LEED Certified Standard (certification not pursued). Completed 2007
4 The Allbritton Center (formerly Davenport Campus Center) is 35,000 gross square feet of renovation from student campus center into classrooms, offices and seminar spaces. This is currently pursuing LEED Gold Renovation Status with 47 points submitted to the USGBC.

5 The Cogeneration project located in the Central Power Plant is a 16-cylinder gas engine that turns a generator which will produce our own electricity. Completed 2009

 

We’re Working On It

Listed below are initiatives that have been assigned to a person or office to plan a solution.

  Initiative Status
1 The new Molecular and Life Sciences building will be built to at least LEED Silver standards.  
2 A Green Building Policy will be submitted for review and approval. In Revision

 

We’re Getting to It

Listed below are initiatives that are in the evaluation stage to determine the best way to accomplish them.

  Initiative Status
1 Development of a university wide plan to address LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance. The LEED for Existing Buildings Rating System addresses whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues (including chemical use), recycling programs, exterior maintenance programs, and systems upgrades. Is incorporated into the Green Building Policy
