Green Procurement Initiatives at Wesleyan

We’ve Done It

Listed below are green initiatives that have been implemented.

  Initiative Notes
1 Switched over to using 30% recycled copy paper all over campus.  
2 Reduced the number of days our suppliers come to campus from 5 days per week to 3 days per week.  
3 Offer recycled content office supplies as an alternative to all of our virgin supplies.  
4 ProShred - Wesleyan has saved over 750 trees by shredding our confidential papers  
5 Two successful "Let's Go Green" vendor shows were held in February 2007 & 2008 to spread awareness to employees and vendors of our focus on sustainability.  

 

We’re Working On It

Listed below are initiatives that have been assigned to a person or office to plan a solution.

  Initiative Status
1 Rewriting Wesleyan's purchasing policy to include environmental considerations  
2 Pushing our vendors to reduce the packaging on orders of office supplies  
3 WB Mason to reduce the office supplies delivery from three to two times per week beginning July 1, 2011.  
4 Require departments to use re-manufactured toners when available. On going
5 Implement water cooler filtration systems whenever possible.  
6 Combine MRO (maintenance repair operation) purchases from one supplier.  
7 Vendor consolidation whenever possible.  

   

We’re Getting to It

Listed below are initiatives that are in the evaluation stage to determine the best way to accomplish them.

  Initiative Status
1 Drafting a campus-wide policy for catered events to serve water in pitchers or coolers, rather than serving bottled water.
