Join Wesleyan music alumni of the past decade as they perform in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Center for the Arts. Songwriter, pianist and vocalist Amy Crawford '05 has made a name for herself touring and recording as a member of the reunited Brazilian rock band Os Mutantes, and opening for a diverse range of artists including the Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band. She was a finalist in the Shure/Montreux International Jazz Vocal Competition, and also served as Assistant Producer on the recording of Anthony Braxton's opera "Trillium E" (2010). At Wesleyan, Ms. Crawford will explore the possibilities of her songwriting with the new collective jazz ensemble STORM featuring bassist Ike Sturm, guitarist Jesse Lewis, drummer Jared Schonig, and vibraphonist Chris Dingman '02.
Founded in 2008, the Brooklyn-based band mamarazzi includes bassist Eric Herman '05, guitarist Andrew Aprile '06, percussionist Sam Bathrick '04, tenor saxophonist Tacuma Bradley '04, keyboardist Rob Cohen '06, vocalist Tavi Fields '02, and drummer Andrea Belfiore. The group likens their sound to a laced grapefruit, with tart funk, acidic groove, pulp-n-rind hip hop, and nectar of ancient lullaby; and they draw from diverse influences ranging from Thom Yorke, Maceo Parker, and Lauryn Hill to Fela Kuti and Frank Zappa.
