Performing artists Eiko & Koma have a rich history with Wesleyan as performers and teachers. For the past several years, Eiko has been a fellow with the Center for Creative Research (CCR) and has served as a Visiting Instructor in Dance and East Asian Studies, as well as teaching Delicious Movement workshops in various curricular contexts. This fall Eiko & Koma will create an exhibition in Zilkha Gallery as one of the inaugural events of their multi-year, multi-faceted Retrospective Project. Tentatively titled "Time is not Even, Space is not Empty," the new installation will provide an opportunity for the artists to remember, reflect upon and share their past and present--the continuity of their 38 years of collaboration. Eiko & Koma invite viewers to examine the intersection of past and future as they negotiate their temporal relationship to objects and live performance. The ideas explored in Zilkha Gallery will culminate in a "living installation" at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in 2010 as well as in New York City.
