What will students do in Ascend?
Participants are required to meet after school twice each week with a Wesleyan student who will assist with homework assignments and schoolwork. Hands-on enrichment sessions in math, science, music, art, social studies, language arts, music and technology, along with guest presentations, are some of the other elements of the Ascend experience. The Ascend Coordinator will have periodic contact with parents to let them know how their child is doing in the program.
In addition, there will be field excursions. In past years, Ascend students have visited the Hartford Stage Company, Bushnell Theatre, IceCapades, Boston Museum of Science, SONY Wonder Technology, Science Center of Connecticut, and other cultural and educational institutions. A tour of Wesleyan's campus to explore college options and a workplace visit to introduce and spark career interests may also be included in the year's programming.
When does Ascend meet?
Ascend starts the week of November 1, 2011 and ends on April 26, 2012. Sessions take place after school twice each week from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
How does my child qualify for Ascend?
- Your child must be committed to attend the after-school sessions.
- Your child must possess the ability and motivation to continue his or her education beyond high school.
What does it cost to participate in Ascend?
Families pay an annual fee of $40 to participate in Ascend. Checks should be made payable to Wesleyan University, and if necessary, can be paid in two $20 installments due November 15th and March 15th.
How do I apply to Ascend?
