What will students do in Upward Bound?

Upward Bound provides academic instruction in mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature, and foreign languages throughout the academic year and during the six-week summer program. Other services include tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, education and counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students, information on postsecondary education opportunities and college visits, assistance in completing college entrance and financial aid applications, and assistance in preparing for college entrance exams.

When does Upward Bound meet?

The Upward Bound program meets every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Wesleyan's campus. Students are also required to attend a six-week academic enrichment program during the summer, which is usually held from mid-June to late July. Tutoring is also available throughout the school week.

How do I qualify for Upward Bound?

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet at least meet the following criteria:

  • Student from Maloney High School, Middletown High School, or Platt High School
  • Meet the U.S. Department of Education requirements of low-income and/or first-generation college student status
  • Student in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade in the fall of the year of applying

What does it cost to participate in Upward Bound?

The Upward Bound program is free to its participants. However, there is an investment of time and effort required on the part of the student and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s).

How do I apply to Upward Bound?
