Upward Bound

Important News from the Upward Bound office: Upward Bound Office News

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families, and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

After-School Tutoring

Tutors are available by appointment.  Please call the office at (860) 685-2970 to schedule sessions and arrange transportation.  Tutors are not just for people who are struggling, although they really help in that situation, they are for strong students to help you improve and learn new study skills, challenge your ideas, learn about college from those there now and have a partner in the grind of all that work.  You never know what opportunities it could open up for you.

NYC Trip for Seniors

We told seniors during the summer, that if they followed through on all of their senior UB obligations (summer program, Great Hollow and completed their application and financial aid process including getting app’s out, communicating with guidance and the program, meeting deadlines, attending required sessions…) that we would try to take them to NYC for a day of culture and fun.  We are able to do it and so many seniors did everything asked of them and more, that on May 23rd we will go to NYC, see a Broadway show, go to a museum, take the train.  Eligible seniors should call the office at 860-685-2970 if you have not already signed up and select the show you would like to see.  The choices are: Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Streetcar Named Desire, Spiderman, Lion King, and Memphis.
