Multipurpose Room

makes the MPR an ideal place for student group meetings, or just to kick

express themselves and use the walls as their canvas.

The MPR has

Student Activities and
Leadership Development (SALD)

Usdan opened, SALD has booked almost 2500 events totaling almost 6000
hours of programming for students?

has helped student groups contract 165 speakers, musical acts, and
artists in 2008?

has given $33,000 to support student events since Usdan opened?

staff collectively has 17 years of experience facilitating training with

The Usdan Center Activities Board (UCAB) is a student run
programming group and has weekly programs every Thursday night at 9:00?
Some of their past programs have included karaoke, open mic night, film
screenings, spa nights, wii competitions, and sundae parties.

provides Event Staff supplies such as cash boxes and hand stamps at no
cost to student organizations for social events across campus?

is responsible for coordinating the entire New Student Orientation
Program each year?

Scheduling is responsible for scheduling 50 classrooms and over 30
multi-purpose event spaces including the Memorial Chapel, the Usdan
University Center, and the Russell House?

Scheduling works with faculty, staff, graduate students, alumni, and
external clients to plan events and reserve space for over 12,000
events, including summer programs?

Scheduling provides logistical planning for large all-campus events

and Wesfest as well as smaller events including lectures, conferences

Usdan / Memorial
Chapel Operations
-
That Usdan
Operations Staff are responsible for the facilities management of the
Usdan and Fayerweather buildings ?

That Usdan
Operations employs over 35 students to help manage the Usdan
facilities?

our student employees are a part of our leadership development program
and learn valuable transferable career / life skills?

That Usdan
student employees are responsible for opening and closing the buildings,
and for doing all of the set ups for the events that take place in both
Usdan and Fayerweather?

student information desk attendants answer the University phone line?

is a lost and found service located at the Information
Desk?

use of sustainable materials added $3 million to building costs during
the construction of the Usdan / Fayerweather buildings?

That some environmentally friendly features of
the building include: variable flow stove-exhaust hoods that ramp up in
response to heat and or smoke as opposed to running on full all day
long. Cooler condensers will produce hot water as a by product of their
operation, this hot water will be used to pre-heat sink water for hand
washing.

That Usdan
has energy efficient features such as: automatic dimming and temperature
control systems, energy efficient fluorescent lights, and an impervious
roof made of natural shale.

That the
Usdan Center was purposely sited to the southwest, taking advantage of
the sunlight for passive solar energy. Trees were also planted to
provide heat screening in the summer.

That Usdan
has a light dimming system that will ensure lights cannot be turned up
to 100 percent. This increases bulb life and reduces energy costs.
The dimming system also adjusts the lights
based on the ambient daylight entering the room.

That
throughout Usdan and Fayerweather light occupancy sensors determine if
spaces are being used and can shut lights off if no movement is sensed.
-
That there
is 50,000 feet of radiant heat tubing in Fayerweather, Usdan and at the
loading dock to provide interior radiant heating and snow melt at the
loading dock. This system puts heat where you need it so it saves
energy.

That it
took 40, 500 work hours to design the Usdan Center and 307,000 work
hours to construct the buildings?

That the 3rd floor
lounge is open to all (when not in use for an event) and is a
great place to relax or study?

That the 2nd floor
dining bays are open outside of mealtimes and is also another place to
relax with friends or study?

Fayerweather was originally built in 1894 and was restored to its

additions were demolished, the building was stripped out, a new steel
frame was built inside and the entire building was rebuilt to modern

Brownstone used in the renovation project is from Germany and chosen for

Beckham Hall was named after former Dean of the College
Edgar Beckham?
He was the first African-American to serve as dean of the college at
