Game Room & Multipurpose Room

  • That you can play pool, ping-pong, and foosball in the Game Room for FREE? Just hand in your Wes ID to the Info Desk Staff in exchange for the game equipment.

  • That the Multi-Purpose Room has wonderfully comfortable seats and sofas? This makes the MPR an ideal place for student group meetings, or just to kick back and hang out with friends.

  • That the mural paintings on the walls of the MPR were done by Wesleyan students? In an effort to liven up the MPR, students were given the chance to express themselves and use the walls as their canvas.

  • The MPR has cable where you can watch your favorite shows on a big projector? Just ask the Student Manager to set up the projector.

  • That both the Game Room and MPR are used as locker rooms during the Wesleyan Football season for home games?

  • That the Game Room and MPR have iPod jacks so you can listen to your favorite tunes while you play or hang out?

  • That there are 6 Information Table locations available Monday through Friday in the Usdan Center?

Music Rehearsal & Steel Band Room

Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD)

  • That since Usdan opened, SALD has booked almost 2500 events totaling almost 6000 hours of programming for students?

  • That SALD has helped student groups contract 165 speakers, musical acts, and artists in 2008?

  • That SALD has given $33,000 to support student events since Usdan opened?

  • That SALD staff collectively has 17 years of experience facilitating training with student leaders around a variety of topics?

  • That SALD has 18 ready to go tip sheets on leadership topics, 10 to go training folders students can present to their own groups, and over 50 books on leadership topics?

  •  That The Usdan Center Activities Board (UCAB) is a student run programming group and has weekly programs every Thursday night at 9:00? Some of their past programs have included karaoke, open mic night, film screenings, spa nights, wii competitions, and sundae parties.

  • That SALD provides Event Staff supplies such as cash boxes and hand stamps at no cost to student organizations for social events across campus?

  • That SALD is responsible for coordinating the entire New Student Orientation Program each year?

  • That SALD, in partnership with Residential Life and the Office of International Student Affairs, works with a group of student interns? They include the Organizing Center intern, the Leadership intern, the Queer Resource Center intern, the Student of Color Coalition intern, the International Student Affairs intern, and the Dwight Green ’70 interns. These students provide programming and organizing support to student groups across campus.

University Box Office

  • That the Box Office has online ticketing available 24/7 at www.wesleyan.edu/cfa/boxoffice?

  • That the Box Office is open to everyone from Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the 1st floor of the Usdan University Center?

  • That tickets can be purchased over the phone with a credit card by calling the Box Office at (860) 685-3355?

  • That tickets can be purchased at each event beginning one hour prior to the performance, subject to availability?

University Events & Scheduling

  • That University Events & Scheduling is responsible for scheduling 50 classrooms and over 30 multi-purpose event spaces including the Memorial Chapel, the Usdan University Center, and the Russell House?

  • That University Events & Scheduling works with faculty, staff, graduate students, alumni, and external clients to plan events and reserve space for over 12,000 events, including summer programs?

  • That University Events & Scheduling provides logistical planning for large all-campus events including Reunion/Commencement, Homecoming/Family Week-end, Orientation and Wesfest as well as smaller events including lectures, conferences and dinners?

  • That University Events & Scheduling works with nonprofit organizations and community members to contract for use of Wesleyan spaces for non-University related events including more than 20 weddings each year in the Chapel?

  • That University Events & Scheduling uses EMS (Event Management Systems) software for scheduling and helped launch the web Room Request EMS version that allows Wesleyan community members to reserve space online?

  • That University Events & Scheduling relocated to the Usdan University Center in the summer of 2007 after 10 years as the University Coordinator’s Office in the Russell House?

  • That University Events & Scheduling serves as the liaison between clients who are sponsoring events and service providers who provide services at events i.e. IMS Events, Physical Plant, and Bon Appetit?

  • That the web room request system (EMS) went live to the entire Wesleyan community in September 2008?  There were over 6,500 web requests for space in the first semester.

  • That it takes three full-time staff members and five part-time student workers to plan and schedule the events supported by University Events & Scheduling?

Usdan / Memorial Chapel Operations

  • That Usdan Operations Staff are responsible for the facilities management of the Usdan and Fayerweather buildings ?

  • That Usdan Operations employs over 35 students to help manage the Usdan facilities? 

  • That all of our student employees are a part of our leadership development program and learn valuable transferable career / life skills? 

  • That Usdan student employees are responsible for opening and closing the buildings, and for doing all of the set ups for the events that take place in both Usdan and Fayerweather? 

  • That our student information desk attendants answer the University phone line? 

  • That there is a lost and found service located at the Information Desk? 

  • That the use of sustainable materials added $3 million to building costs during the construction of the Usdan / Fayerweather buildings? 

  • That some environmentally friendly features of the building include: variable flow stove-exhaust hoods that ramp up in response to heat and or smoke as opposed to running on full all day long.  Cooler condensers will produce hot water as a by product of their operation, this hot water will be used to pre-heat sink water for hand washing. 

  • That Usdan has energy efficient features such as: automatic dimming and temperature control systems, energy efficient fluorescent lights, and an impervious roof made of natural shale.

  • That the Usdan Center was purposely sited to the southwest, taking advantage of the sunlight for passive solar energy. Trees were also planted to provide heat screening in the summer.

  • That Usdan has a light dimming system that will ensure lights cannot be turned up to 100 percent. This increases bulb life and reduces energy costs. The dimming system also adjusts the lights based on the ambient daylight entering the room. 

  • That throughout Usdan and Fayerweather light occupancy sensors determine if spaces are being used and can shut lights off if no movement is sensed. 

  • That there is 50,000 feet of radiant heat tubing in Fayerweather, Usdan and at the loading dock to provide interior radiant heating and snow melt at the loading dock.  This system puts heat where you need it so it saves energy. 

  • That it took 40, 500 work hours to design the Usdan Center and 307,000 work hours to construct the buildings? 

  • That the 3rd floor lounge is open to all (when not in use for an event) and is a great place to relax or study? 

  • That the 2nd floor dining bays are open outside of mealtimes and is also another place to relax with friends or study? 

  • That at the Usdan website: www.wesleyan.edu/usdan you can find information on operating hours, how to reserve space, building policies, and more!

  • That Fayerweather was originally built in 1894 and was restored to its original footprint? 

  • That Fayerweather once served as the University’s gymnasium? The pool and additions were demolished, the building was stripped out, a new steel frame was built inside and the entire building was rebuilt to modern standards.

  • That the Brownstone used in the renovation project is from Germany and chosen for it’s durability.

  • That Beckham Hall was named after former Dean of the College Edgar Beckham? He was the first African-American to serve as dean of the college at Wesleyan University.

  • That Beckham Hall is a multi-purpose event space and can accommodate large seated dinners, dances, film screenings and lectures?

  • That located on the first floor of Fayerweather are Theater and Dance Rehearsal Rooms?

  • That since the opening in September 2007, there has been over 500 bookings made in Beckham Hall alone?

  • That the Chapel was completed in 1872 to remember those who took part in the Civil War? The Chapel was on the 2nd floor and the History Department had the 1st floor as class rooms and offices.  

  • That Woodrow Wilson had his office and class room in the Chapel while he taught at Wesleyan?

  • That the Chapel is the largest performance venue on campus?

  • That the steeple to the Chapel was damaged by the 1938 hurricane?

  • That the 2003 renovation of the Chapel created office and rehearsal space in what was before an unfinished basement?

  • That the 92 Theater was the campus library until it was converted into a theater in the late 1800's?

  • That 2nd Stage operates the 92 Theater and is the oldest student run theater in the country - since 1974?

Wes Station (Mail Services)

  • That the Wesleyan Station has a web site at http://www.wesleyan/wesstation?  On this site you may submit a stamp order for your department, and view current rates for USPS, UPS and FedEx shipments.  There are also links to these couriers for tracking packages.

  • That the manager of Wesleyan Station is a Notary Public, and the service is offered free to the Wesleyan Community?

  • That at the service window you may send things out using either USPS or FedEx services?  We carry a variety of stamps and shipping supplies.

Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA)

  • That the WSA in its current form dates to 1975, when the Assembly was created with 89% of the voting population voting in favor of its creation?

  • That our Constitution has been emulated by schools across the country for its use of gender-neutral language?

  • that our representatives serve as ex officio members of the faculty, coordinate with the Administration on Student Life issues, and serve as liaisons to other student groups and the Middletown community?

  • That our other offices at 190 High serve as permanent space for student groups such as an all-night listening service, the Queer Resource Center, the University Organizing Center, and others?

  • That the WSA administrative office has a copy and fax machine available for use by student groups leaders registered through the CoCo committee?

  • That the WSA sponsors the annual student activities fair which draws over 500 students, faculty, staff, and guests?

  • That the WSA office coordinator oversees the yearbook committee which has been published since 1875?
