Description

The "Godowsky" piano, a Bechstein made in the late 19th century, belonged to Leopold Godowsky I (1870-1938), the famed pianist. Godowsky, one of the first pianists to give a recital in Carnegie Hall (two weeks before it officially opened in 1891), was also known for his hundreds of piano transcriptions and compositions. The piano was acquired by the generous donation of his grandson Leopold Godowsky III and Elaine Godowsky.
