Malcolm X House: History of a Community
by Khemenec Pantin '00
Following the Fisk Hall takeover in April of 1969, a unanimous faculty vote marked the inception of a residential dorm that fostered several novel programs as an integral part of the Black community at Wesleyan University. The initial house members known as the Vanguard class, established these programs. However, what some remarked as a modern day "Black Renaissance" was cut short by attempts of its removal almost five years after its creation. Subsequent years are marked with the same recurring problem of a house struggling for existence through each decade.
