All WSA
recognized student groups are generously offered free email accounts by ITS. There are two
types: regular group addresses, or those that just forward email to personal
accounts.
Account type 1: General email accounts.
Purpose: One account for your whole group means all outgoing
correspondence will be from the same address, and all feedback will go to one place.
For example: wsa@wesleyan.edu goes to our
student government.
How to obtain: email operations@wesleyan.edu
with your group name (your account will be groupname@wesleyan.edu)
How to use: They function exactly like your
individual account. Visit either http://mail.wesleyan.edu,
or telnet in to groupname.mail.wesleyan.edu, and enter your group name as the username and
the password you gave to ITS as the password. Easy! If you're using Eudora or
Outlook, be sure to select "leave messages on the server" if you want your
fellow group members to be able to read them.
Account type 2: Group email addresses.
Purpose: Do you have a steady number of members in your
group? You can set up an account that forwards messages onto your entire group. For
example, email e3@wesleyan.edu, and all of the regular E3 members will receive an
email. This is perfect for improving internal communications within your group, but
because of its convenience, it will generate a lot of email traffic. Recommended for
serious members only. This is similar to a listserv, but with this you have to go
through ITS to subscribe or unsubscribe members.
How to obtain: email operations@wesleyan.edu,
give here a name for this address, and include the personal email addresses of everyone
you want mail sent to this address forwarded to.
How to use: Send an email message from your personal account
to this address.
