Enrollment
Who is eligible to enroll in WesWELL
Non-Credit Classes?
Members of the Wesleyan community are eligible to enroll in
WesWELL classes. This includes currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate
students (including GLSP), employees,
retirees, alumni, and their spouses/partners. As these classes are designed
for adults, minor children may enroll only at the discretion of the
instructor.
How do I register?
You may register via your e-portfolio.
Look for the link entitled "WesWELL Non-Credit Courses" under
Tools & Links.
Wesleyan community members
without an e-portfolio should contact WesWELL directly at
lcurrie@wesleyan.edu or
860.685.2466 to register. Your enrollment is considered final when you
attend the first class and complete
a paper Enrollment Form.
Why do I need to fill out a paper
Enrollment Form?
WesWELL requires your signature on a paper
Enrollment Form for legal and financial reasons.
The Enrollment Form confirms your enrollment in a particular class,
indicates how you intend to pay for the course, authorizes WesWELL to charge
your student account (if applicable) and serves as an injury waiver. All
class participants are expected to print out and bring their
Enrollment Form to the first class attended and
give it to the instructor. NOTE: Your student account will not be
charged until a paper enrollment form is turned into your instructor.
Can a class be cancelled?
If sufficient enrollment levels for a section are not
met (usually a minimum of 10 people), the class may be cancelled at the
instructor's discretion. Registrants will be notified by email and offered
the option of registering for another class. The class website will be updated to
reflect the cancellation as well.
Registration is closed but I want
to enroll in a class. Can I?
Most instructors will allow new enrollments only during the
first two class sessions. If it is later than this, contact the instructor
directly to ask if they will allow you to join.
Fees & Payments
How much do these classes cost?
As of January 2008, current class fees are for twelve

How can I pay my fee? Can I charge my
student account?
Wesleyan students currently enrolled in academic classes may
charge their student accounts OR pay by cash/check at the first class
attended. Wesleyan employees, retirees, alumni, or spouses/partners may pay
by cash/check at the first class attended. A paper
Enrollment Form must be completed at the first class attended to confirm
your enrollment and indicate your preferred payment method. NOTE: Your
student account will not be charged until a paper enrollment form is
turned into your instructor.
When is my student account charged for the class fee?
Your student account will be charged after you confirm your enrollment by
completing a paper Enrollment Form at the first class
you attend and WesWELL finalizes enrollments for all classes. This may take four
to six weeks after you turn in your enrollment form. It is the student’s
responsibility to notify their parent or guardian of any student account
charges incurred for WesWELL classes, if applicable.
I can't afford to pay the full fee. Can
it be reduced?
Individuals who can not afford to pay the full fee are encouraged to discuss
a scholarship or reduced fee with the class instructor directly. WesWELL instructors are
required in their teaching contract to negotiate reduced fees when requested in
order to
encourage participation in the classes.
Instructors may be contacted by
email through the class information websites or you may talk to them at the
first class you attend. Be sure to discuss this with your instructor before
completing your paper Enrollment Form at the first
class attended; they will need to initial your form.
I'm joining the class a week late. Can I
get a discount?
Your instructor has the discretion to reduce (pro-rate) your
fee according to how late you are joining the class. Be sure to discuss this
with your instructor before
completing your paper Enrollment Form at the first
class attended; they will need to initial your form.
What happens to the fee I pay?
All class fees are paid directly to the class instructor minus a $5
administrative charge per person. WesWELL utilizes the administrative charges
collected to cover payroll expenses and other material costs related to the
classes. WesWELL does not profit or strive to generate revenue from the non-credit
classes.
Withdrawals & Refunds
How do I drop/withdraw from a WesWELL class?
Complete the
online withdrawal form.
If you have not attended any classes, your registration will be cancelled with no charges.
If you have attended classes, you will be charged a reduced (pro-rated) fee.
See the next two questions for more details.
If you wish to register for a new class, you may do so as
I attended class a couple times, but
can't anymore. Can I get my fee reduced or refunded?
Generally speaking, fee reductions/refunds are given if you can no longer attend the class
due to an injury, ongoing or chronic illness, or leave/withdrawal
from the University. Fee reductions/refunds are
not given because you simply stopped attending the class and wish to have your money back. In any other situation, the instructor determines
whether a reduced fee/refund will be given or not and their decision is final.
If your student account charge has
not been processed by WesWELL, your fee can be reduced based on the number of classes attended.
Typically this runs about $10 to15 per class attended.
If your student account charge has been processed by
WesWELL OR you paid by cash/check, refunds are negotiated
directly with the instructor. It is recommended you stop by the
class to discuss a refund in person with the instructor or you may
click here to send an email.
How much of my fee will I get back?
Reduced charges/refunds are calculated based on the original class fee and
the number of classes you attended. Typically this runs about $10 to15
per class attended.
Equipment
What equipment do I need?
Each class website lists the equipment required. Bringing a
bottle of water is always recommended when engaging in physical activity.
Do WesWELL have a yoga mat I can
borrow?
WesWELL has a small number of yoga mats
available to borrow. Stop by WesWELL, located on the second floor of
the Davison Health Center, to sign one out for the semester. A $20 mat
replacement fee will be charged to a student's account for mats that are not
returned by the last day of final exams. You are strongly encouraged to
wash the mat before returning it so it is clean for the next user (see next
question).
My yoga mat smells like feet. Is it
washable?
Yes! To wash a yoga mat, use a small amount of mild
detergent and a cold wash cycle. Do NOT allow the mat to go through the spin
cycle. Allow lots of time to air dry (do not use a tumble drier or radiator)
and avoid folding or using your mat until it is completely dry, as this may
shorten its life. You can roll your mat up with a towel and squeeze excess
water out to speed up the drying process. You can also use a damp cloth to
wipe your mat clean. Do not wash the mat unnecessarily, as the more worn a
mat becomes, the better its grip.
Miscellaneous
Why can't these classes be offered
for free?
It is important to compensate our instructors for the time
and energy it requires to be trained, create a curriculum, and teach the
classes. If classes were free, the cost of paying the instructors a fair
wage would supplant virtually all other health education outreach offered each
academic year, including safer sex supplies, student wages and other program
costs. Therefore, costs must be passed along to class participants in order
to offer these classes at all.
Why can't these classes be offered for credit?
As a non-academic department, WesWELL does not have the ability to offer credit
courses. Until the day that these classes are available for credit through Physical Education
or other academic department, WesWELL is committed to supporting Wesleyan
community members in engaging in activities which
contribute to their overall health and well-being.
How do these fees compare to classes held
off campus?
Our fees are generally set at a level lower than those offered off campus
and are more conveniently located. For example, yoga
classes outside Wesleyan cost approximately $15 to $20 per class; ours are
approximately $10 per class. Also, due to our low administrative costs,
instructors receive a larger portion of the fee than they would teaching in
off-campus venues.
How can I become an instructor for WesWELL?
WesWELL maintains a long tradition of hiring current Wesleyan community members
to teach non-credit classes. In fact, most of our
instructors are current students or alumni who participated in our classes,
sought out training, earned their credentials, and decided to contribute to the
Wesleyan community by teaching. If you are interested in teaching for WesWELL,
contact Lisa Currie, Director of Health Education at 860.685.2466 or by email at
lcurrie@wesleyan.edu.
