Class Description
Temple Shaolin Kung Fu
(Southern Tiger Style ) is for those who have not been physically
active, as well as those who have been. Real effectiveness is a result
of mastery of skill, not of size or muscle power. Temple training
stresses the development of internal strength, and how it is effective
in any situation. Designed so that a sincere student while at Wesleyan
can earn a Black sash in a recognized world-class discipline truly
physical, emotional and spiritual.
First semester of
training
-
The ultimate
self-defense strategy
-
The ability to
physically release yourself from any situation (grab or hold)
-
An introduction to
the fundamentals of defense and strike
Second semester of
training (White sash training)
The Physical
-
Real self
defense and fighting skills. (Real as defined by 15 years of temple
and classical martial arts training, military training, five years
of full car packed contests fighting the last two of which were
undefeated).
The Metaphysical
-
Martial arts as a
means of acquiring wisdom and transcending ordinary consciousness.
-
Teaches by
experience the principles of cause and effect in life (karma)
-
As an art, its
purpose is to reveal and experience the oneness of life
The Personal
-
To understand the
way of following the natural law in life, as demonstrated through
the metaphor of martial arts. By which furnishes a working model for
true “success” in life.
-
Reveals the
interplay of body and mind and how to truly "stay in control"
-
Allows you to
discover and refine your own approach to life
Taught by priests of the
Small Forest Shaolin temple with 40 years of combined teaching
experience. The origin of most contemporary martial arts temple training
involves both internal and external disciplines. (1500 years of unbroken
temple teaching) which originally brought to Wesleyan the true meaning
of classical martial arts including energy root, centering, basic
strikes, blocking, and evasive and defensive patterns.
