The goal of this ancient practice is to align the body breath and
mind. Don't let the "slow flow" fool you... come to work. We will
both flow mindfully between postures to awaken and revitalize the
body and mind, but we will also at times hold poses long enough to
break through years of emotional and physical blockages. You will
sweat, laugh, and perhaps even cry. You will leave reborn, light and
open with your feet firmly grounded, ready for the great adventure
called life.
Mentally your powers of concentration and intuition will increase as
a clarity and suppleness of mind develop. Emotionally yoga fosters
an attitude of contentment and bliss.
Focus is placed on proper alignment, a deep sense of feeling the
postures, and the development of a profound ability to relax at
will. This class is particularly well suited for people interested
in meditation, relaxation, flexibility, and the development of a
peaceful outlook. This practice is ideal as a tool to clear the
mind, detoxify the blood, and tone the body. Press reset on a
hectic week and leave class with a sense of ease and joy.
Level
Master practitioner to total newbee come by, there is something for
everyone here. This class is built around the ability and desires
of the students.
Instructor:
A long time athlete Miles enjoys soccer, surfing, boxing, capoiera,
biking, and amateur acrobatics. Two years ago he began an
exploration of dance that started with Afro Brazilian Dance. He was
bit by the dance bug and went on the study Jazz, Hip Hop,
Bharatantyam, Javanese, Ballet, Modern, and West African dance.
Miles took his first yoga class three years ago over winter break.
Immediately hooked he signed up for an unlimited pass at the studio
near his house and over the next month took two to four classes a
day. The odyssey that unfolded became particularly out of control
last summer when he spent three months studying yogic postures and
philosophy in India with some of the world's foremost teachers.
"I came back from India with the sense that I had just been
introduced to the world's most important art form. An antidote to
the stress, violence, and insanity of our modern world.
Yoga is the practice of consciously developing joy, peace, and
will. It's the practice of taking control of your body, of your
emotions, of your mind, and ultimately of your life. This may sound
abstract but there are concrete improvements in personal energy,
focus, health, and happiness that are continually proven to be
realties by the individuals who undertake the yogic journey. This
ability to concisely foster all that is good and worthwhile in the
human experience is of profound importance for individuals and
societies, it is a great testament to human will and our capacity
for thoughtful evolution."
