Judicial Referrals

A student may be referred to WesWELL by the Student Judicial Board (SJB) or other judicial officer on campus; most frequently, these are for alcohol or other drug violations. This page describes what a student may expect for different types of referrals. Students who do not complete their assigned sanctions in a timely manner will be referred back to the SJB or judicial officer for further disciplinary action.

Individual Meetings

A student referred to WesWELL for an individual meeting will be required to set up an appointment.. This is most quickly accomplished by calling Health Services at 860.685.2470 during their regular office hours. Meetings will run approximately 30 minutes. If this meeting is in regards to an alcohol or marijuana violation, the student should complete an online alcohol assessment or online marijuana assessment (as appropriate) and bring a printout of their results to their individual meeting. This provides the student with feedback on their behaviors and attitudes and provides a strong starting point for conversation.

To schedule an individual meeting, contact Health Services at 860.685.2470.

CHOICES Class

The CHOICES Class is a research-based prevention program which can assist college students in making safer choices regarding alcohol consumption. Conducted in a peer-to-peer group setting, CHOICES helps students appreciate the risks associated with alcohol use and equip them with effective strategies for reducing the risk and harm associated with high-risk drinking in the college environment. These classes are facilitated by staff members from WesWELL or Health Services.

If you have scheduling questions or other concerns about this class, contact Joyce Walter at 860.685.2656.

University Service Hours

The Student Judicial Board has the option of assigning students university service hours as a sanction for violations of the Code of Non-Academic Conduct. The SJB may choose to assign a student to complete their hours with WesWELL, typically for an alcohol or drug violation. This may range from 5 to 20 hours or more, depending on the seriousness of the violation and other sanctions assigned.

The Director of Health Education will work with the student to develop a project that can be completed during their assigned hours and which will somehow benefit the student and the office's health education outreach. Past projects have included web resource research, development of brochures or bulletin board materials, research projects, fliering on campus, and completing clerical tasks or running errands.
