The Sexual Health Art Show is a new addition to the
Sexual Health Expo in 2009, open to any Wesleyan
individual or group who wants to use their artistic skills to educate their
peers.
We encourage Wesleyan Community Members to
participate in the Sexual Health Art Show in a manner that supports others
in expanding their knowledge and awareness of sexual health issues, as well
as encouraging personal responsibility when it comes to one's own health.

Award
In addition to contributing to the mission of the
Sexual Health Expo to spread awareness of sexual health issues,
participants will be in the running for a $100.00 gift card to Typhoon
Restaurant in Middletown.
Artwork will be viewed and voted upon by attendees of the Sexual Health
Expo through an anonymous ballot. Votes will be tallied and the winner
notified at the conclusion of the Sexual Health Expo.
Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to all submitted pieces:
- Artwork should relate directly to the goals of the Sexual Health
Expo & Art Show, which are to promote sexual health and responsibility and increase
student knowledge of campus health resources. A variety of relevant
issues may be addressed, including promoting healthy relationships,
disease and pregnancy prevention, sexual violence prevention, current
political issues related to sexual and reproductive rights, etc.
- Artwork can be of any form or material including paintings,
sculptures, garments of clothing, photography, sound, etc. All artwork must
pertain to the themes of the Sexual Health Expo by inspiring
the promotion or awareness of sexual health and responsibility, as this relates to the issues
portrayed in the work.
- Artists are highly encouraged to use recyclable and found objects
when possible. The point of the show is not to have the most expensive
piece but rather the most creative, cost-effective, and eco-friendly one
that also promotes sexual health and responsibility.
- Interested artists should submit their entry form no later than
the stated deadline. Artists should indicate if they have any special
needs or requests for the display of their piece and the WesWELL office
will try to accommodate when possible. Artists should also indicate the
tentative form that their artwork will take (painting, sculpture,
photography, etc). If requested, the WesWELL office will provide up to
25 condoms that can be included in the piece.
- A space will be provided by WesWELL for the display of artwork in
Exley Science Center during the Sexual Health Expo. Artists will be
required to submit their pieces to WesWELL staff in advance of the
Sexual Health Expo. All displays will be anonymous to prevent voter bias.
- Artists must include a statement about their piece describing how it
is relevant to the themes of the Sexual Health Expo. Statements will be
read by WesWELL staff and will be displayed with the artwork only with
the artist's consent.
- WesWELL reserves the right to make final display decisions.
Questions should be sent to
weswell@wesleyan.edu or call Lisa Currie, Director of Health Education
at 860.685.2466.
