Programs offered by WesWELL Staff

Topics available for educational programs by WesWELL professional staff and/or the student Peer Health Advocates include (but are not limited to):

  • Alcohol Poisoning Response
    • An overview of the signs and symptoms of severe intoxication and responding appropriately to this high risk medical situation. This peer-led discussion gives you the skills to intervene when someone is in a dangerous situation with alcohol and can't make their own decisions.
  • Bartender's School
    • Learn some of the key skills bartenders are taught: how to measure drinks accurately in order to track consumption, understanding the factors that influence the absorption of alcohol and intoxication levels, and how to prevent severe intoxication by following low risk consumption guidelines. This program says "Just Say Know" to help you making an informed decision about your alcohol consumption.
  • WesSex
    • The Peer Health Advocates will share a ton of information on how to protect yourself and your partner(s) from sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, and how to create safer and healthier sexual relationships.
  • HPV & the Gardasil Vaccine
    • Want to know all about the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection, the one that can result in cervical cancer and genital warts...but the one that actually has a vaccine to prevent it? This is the program for you!
  • Defining Your Sexual Boundaries
    • Knowing what you are and are not willing to do sexually provides a strong foundation for getting what you want out of sexual relationships, whether it be with a one-time partner or in a long-term relationship. The workshop allows participants to engage in activities and discussion which will help them clarify their own boundaries and offer ideas for communicating them with their partner(s).
  • What is Consent?
    • Join this discussion about giving and receiving consent as a way to build healthier relationships and to prevent sexual assault. While there are many grey areas around consent, this discussion can open your eyes to the importance of being clear when giving and receiving consent for sexual activity.
  • Massage for Stress Relief
    • Need a break? The Peer Health Advocates can teach your group how to do simple massage techniques for stress relief. Participants will give and receive massages with a friend. Note: This is a "hands-on" workshop and massage oils will be used to ease the massage process. Wear a shirt you don't mind getting oily and bring a towel to lay on.
  • Preventing Compassion Fatigue
    • Stressed out? Worried you're burning out? Compassion fatigue is a very extreme form of burn out that most people will not experience, but we still might get to the point of losing our ability to care about others because of our own stress levels. Learn about how to prevent burn out by actively choosing to manage and reduce your stress levels.
  • Getting Better Sleep
    • Sleep is critical for our physical and mental wellbeing, but is often the first thing to be sacrificed in a busy and demanding schedule. This presentation talks about ways to improve the quality of your sleep even if getting the quantity you want isn't possible at the moment, as well as some of the trends that contribute to our sleep-deprived culture.
  • Is it a Diet or a Disorder?
    • Understanding the continuum of eating behaviors -- from healthy consumption to a diagnosis of eating disorder -- can be helpful in identifying problem behaviors and preventing them from occurring in the first place.
  • Unwrapping Emotional Eating
    • What does the connection between our emotions and our eating habits look like? What triggers emotional eating for some people? And what cultural influences exist that actually support this habit?  This workshop gives participants the chance to examine their own behaviors in a safe environment and suggest techniques for addressing an emotional eating response.

Other topics

  • Effects of "Other" Drugs
  • Relationship Violence Prevention
  • Building Healthy Relationships
  • and more...just ask!

Topics may be tailored to meet the needs of the audience. Additional time may be required to develop a program on a topic not listed above or for which an outside presenter is not available.
