JONATHAN SCHELL is the author of twelve books including The Fate of the Earth, The Time of Illusion, A Hole in the World and most recently The Seventh Decade: The New Shape of Nuclear Danger. He has been a staff writer at The New Yorker and a columnist for Newsday. He is currently a columnist for The Nation magazine, a Fellow at The Nation Institute, and a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center for the Study of Globalization at Yale University, where he is also a visiting lecturer. He has received a Guggenheim fellowship, a Lannan Literary Award, and awards from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and the MacArthur Foundation.
