Affectionately referred to as “Fist,” Ben is a man of scholarly pursuits: he enjoys reading the almanac, a competitive game of croquet and debating the finer points of American fiscal policy.  Ben does crew which means he gets in a boat and expends a tremendous amount of energy to propel it from one end of a river to another.  All of this could be accomplished with a motor, but members of the crew team seem to prefer their method of travel.
