Hermano Raymond Sanchez is an alumnus of
the Boys' Club of New York Education Program. After scoring well on
several placement and aptitude tests, Ray at age eleven enrolled at
Rumsey Hall School, a junior preparatory and boarding school in Washington,
CT. Ray graduated from Rumsey Hall in 1993 and attended Middlesex School
in Concord, MA. While at Middlesex Ray was very active in community
service, captain of the varsity wrestling team and a recipent of the Boys' Club
of New York Donald K. Walker Award for outstanding community service.
Ray graduated from Middlesex in 1996 and was accepted to Wesleyan Early Decision. He graduated May 2000 with Honors from the Government Department after completing his Senior Thesis studying Latino Politics and NYC.
Ray is currently the Executive Assistant to the president of the
Hispanic Federation.
Ray was involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. Ray was elected
Treasurer of the Student Budget Committee of the Wesleyan Student Assembly. He
also helped found the Student of Color Web Tutorial which teaches students
web design and established a new on-line resource for students of color at
Wesleyan. Ray was also apart of SIPAC, the Student Institutional Priority
Advisory Committee which meets with the President of the University to
discuss campus issues. Some of Ray's other activities have included
Caliente- Wesleyan's salsa/merrengue dance troupe, columnist for the Argus-
school's main newspaper, and member of the varsity wrestling team. Ray was
selected as a Senior Interviewer in the Admissions department with the
responsibility of reviewing candidates for the Class of 2004.
Ray became an Hermano of La Fraternidad in
the spring of his first year at Wesleyan. Ray has the unique distinction
of being the chapter's only Hermano to join as a "point." In his
time as an undergrad Hermano Ray has served as community service
chair, web master, and as chapter president.
Ray interned with Honorary Hermanos NY
State Assemblyman and Bronx Democratic Chairman Roberto Ramirez and Luis
Miranda former head of the Hispanic Federation in the summer of 1999.
Among his responsibilities was to coordinate the visit of First Lady
Hillary Clinton to Monroe College in the Bronx. (See below picture) Ray joined the People for Ferrer campaign after graduation as a Deputy Finance Director.
