WesPolo's regular season begins in early September and ends in early November. During this time, the team holds practices Monday-Friday 4-6:30 and Saturday afternoons. The team plays in three league tournaments each fall as well as other non-league tournaments and scrimmages. In the spring, we will play in occasional tournaments and scrimmages with a loose practice schedule.
Many players on the team are on the varsity swim team or baseball team. Because water polo runs from September to November it does not overlap with varsity winter and spring sports. This allows athletes time for other activities in the off-season.
The team is part of the Collegiate Water Polo Association's New England Division. Other schools in the division include Yale, Williams, Dartmouth, Boston College, Boston University, and Middlebury with the league winner receiving an automatic bid to the DI National Collegiate Club Championship. In the past seven seasons, WesPolo has attended the DIII National Collegiate Club Championship. In 2006, the team was frequently ranked in the top 25 of all club water polo teams in the country.
WesPolo does not hold tryouts and does not cut players. Both graduate students and undergraduates are welcome to join the team, although strong swimming skills are recommended. Many of our players have not come from a structured high-school/college program and have developed into All-New England and All-American quality players. Each season we make it a priority to review water polo fundamentals with players of all skill levels and experience.
Wesleyan, as a DIII institution, does not offer athletic scholarships. Additionally, WesPolo does not have any input in admissions decisions. Anyone interested in applying to Wesleyan should visit the Admissions website. Undergraduate and graduate students should contact one of the Player-Coaches listed above.
