Colin M. Caplan

Mr. Caplan brings 15 years of professional experience as an author, historian, architect, tour operator, creative content producer and lecturer. His courses connect students to tangible evidence of how and why history is relevant and used in our everyday world. Caplan has authored seven books on New Haven, Connecticut history and also 12 nominations for the Nation Register of Historic Places. He lectures and teaches history of New Haven to students of all ages and backgrounds.

Professor Caplan is a New Haven, Connecticut native who devotes himself to a number of businesses and lines of work and study. As an architectural designer he focuses on historic preservation and adaptive reuse, and is a Historical Architect in Connecticut. Prof. Caplan is a historian specializing in New Haven and Connecticut history, a registered genealogist, a National Register consultant, film and television producer, and lecturer at schools and other public and private settings. He is an author of seven published books on New Haven history including his most recent, Pizza in New Haven. Prof. Caplan also runs Taste of New Haven culinary tours and events, as well as a number of other tour related businesses in Connecticut, Florida and Texas.
