HANNAH
KNUNDSEN

HOMETOWN:
Yardley, PA
HIGH SCHOOL:
 The Pennington School
MAJOR:

Studio Art; Certificate in International Relations

THESIS:

I am doing a photo thesis on the culture of horse racing. I will use photography to examine how the culture of horse racing represents divisions in class, gender, and race.

FAVORITE CLASS:
My favorite class at Wesleyan so far has been the “Political Economy of Developing Countries.” I have always had an interest in human development, and this class has enriched my knowledge on the subject and has inspired me to pursuean international career focused on human development through nonprofit work.
CAMPUS
ACTIVITIES:
I am involved in many activities outside of the classroom. For the last two years I have been a tour guide. Currently, I am captain of the women’s varsity soccer team, and co-leader of Swerved, a student-run art collective. I am a memberof Clinic Escorts, a group that trains and organizes Wesleyan students to escort patients into a heavily-protested women’s clinic in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I also run a business on campus called Wes Maids, which my friend and I co-founded freshman year.
OUTSIDE
WESLEYAN:
Outside of Wes, I work as a freelance photographer. I also design and make jewelry, which is a hobby I started when I was 13 to raise money for my 8th grade class. In my free time I love to craft and start fun projects. When I am not doing something creative, I am usually outdoors hiking, sailing, skiing, or snowboarding.
FAVORITE WESLEYAN EXPERIENCE:
My favorite Wes experience was freshman year when my friend and I were hosting prospective students for WesFest. We had all been hanging out discussing music and playing instruments when we decided to take the fun outside. We unintentionally started a musical parade down Fountain Street, during which other students joined in, singing and dancing.
AFTER
WESLEYAN:

After Wesleyan, I intend to move out to Telluride, Colorado for two years to build up a photo portfolio that will explore the old American West. After I have built up my portfolio, I will apply to graduate programs to get my master’s degree in the fine arts.
